BVI Model Version 2 Overview
The Balanced Value Impact Model (BVI Model) has been used and tested in many memory institutions since 2012. Here I publish the major modifications that make up BVI Model Version 2. The full Version 2 of the BVI Model will be published in my book: Delivering Impact with Digital Resources: Planning strategy in the attention economy due in 2019.
The Balanced Value Impact Model is named for a set of component parts: the balanced scorecard approach; the importance of modes of value; and that it represents an impact model.
The concept of ‘model’, in this context, is a representation that indicates the construction or formulation of a method of organizing an impact assessment activity rather than circumscribes the activity itself. Use of the BVI Model produces an Impact Framework as an immediate output. This Framework structures and guides the process to manage the gathering of impact evidence. The BVI Model Framework thus provides the overall structure of any proposed impact assessment process, while the BVI Model as a whole explores the specific methodology of establishing the impact work.

Strategic Perspectives
Note that in Perspectives the category of "Internal" has been changed to "Operational" to more accurately and clearly reflect usage. Mapping current strategies or actions against these Strategic Perspectives ensures that the outcomes can be narrated clearly. The understanding gained enables the organization to review and respond to the results. The BVI Model assumes that the following four Strategic Perspectives (based upon the Balanced Scorecard) exist and are defined as:- Social Impacts: stakeholders and wider society have been affected and changed in a beneficial fashion.
- Economic Impacts: the activity is demonstrating economic benefits to society, stakeholders or to the organization.
- Innovation Impacts: the digital resource represents or enables innovation which is supporting the social, economic or operational benefits accrued.
- Operational Impacts: the organization creating/delivering the digital resources has been benefited within its internal processes by the innovation demonstrated.

BVI Model Version 2.0 Value Lens Definitions
The BVI Model Version 2 adjusts the Value Lens definitions to more closely reflect actual usage and to enhance understanding of the Values. In the BVI Model there 5 Value Lenses which focus attention to specific assessment activities reflecting core values measured for their impact. One or more Value Lenses are assigned as drivers to any measurement made.

The value and benefits directly gained by people through active use of the digital resource now or sometime in the future.Existence and/or Prestige Value
The value and benefits people derive from knowing that a digital resource exists and is cherished by a community; regardless of whether the resource is personally used or not.Education Value
The value and benefits directly gained by people from their own or others ability to learn and gain knowledge (formally or informally) from a digital resource.Community Value
The value and benefits directly gained by people from the experience of being part of a community engaging with, or afforded by, a digital resource.Inheritance / Legacy Value
The value and benefits derived by people from the ability to pass forward or receive digital resources between generations and communities. Such as the satisfaction that their descendants and other members of the community will in the future be able to enjoy a digital resource, if they so choose.
